Artwork Briefing
What is in the artwork is representing the title of our project: Creative Multimedia. What we have executed in this artwork is all about the puzzle as well. Since our group has choose 'Puzzle' as a term to relate it with Creative Multimedia, we decide to produce an artwork that has a puzzle theme on it.
What is in the artwork is all about arts, which some of it is in drawing form, some is in 3D rendered modeling and some are digital paintings. Here, we are trying to show that in Creative Multimedia, we do a lot of artworks in different ways and outcomes. Painting, modeling and manipulating are our jobs in creative multimedia faculty. It does not matter how bad the artwork is produced, as long as people do understand what we are trying to create and manage to do it with our own hands, and the artworks we produced should have a little info or possibly meaning and explanation for better understanding.
In this artwork, there is also a visual where a hand is drawing the artworks while the part of his/her arm is all break up into the pieces and turn into the puzzle shapes. This is obviously shown the puzzle theme that we have choose before. The true meaning of those puzzle pieces is that the puzzle pieces represent the handwork of us to produce the artworks and how hard-working we are. Every pieces show a capability, idea, teamwork, creationism, reliability, reaction, positive thinking, inspiration, credibility, determination, and personal talent. These are all positive behaviors and personalities as a student in Creative Multimedia. Not only that, the puzzle pieces also actually represents on how far we have achieved in arts. Every pieces is just like a level. One piece is a progress. So, if we managed to collect the pieces and combined them all together to form something, that means we have achieved something on art. That is why we need all those kinds of personalities to accomplish our artwork in creative multimedia. In other words; "Every Pieces Count". This quote represents that every thing that needed to accomplish something should not be missed, even a single one. Same goes to puzzle, that we need every pieces of it to fully completed the puzzle picture.
The pen that the hand is holding represents the theme of the artwork; Creative Multimedia. After all, it is a main root for this kind of project. Also, the term of creative multimedia is a general idea of what kind of artwork we have produced so far. It is all about creative. So, there is no way we forget about the 'creativity' theme, do we?
Overall, our final artwork is done in digital form and generally gives some explanation about creative multimedia and how puzzles can be related to it.
(G.Post) Final Groupwork- The Essay
What is creativity anyway? Creativity basically means a way to do things differently or to come up with new ideas or methods that can help to improve something. Creativity comes when there is a need to come up with something totally different or to make an innovation out of something, then work hard on the idea to make a reality. Then what is multimedia? Multimedia is a medium that consists of various media forms. The forms are text, audio, video, animation, images, and also interactivity. In this modern day, multimedia is widely use in various fields such as education, business, entertainment and advertisement which contributes on improving our way of living.
So know, what is creative multimedia? Creative multimedia is the process of generating new ideas or to improve the multimedia itself and its usage as well as solving existing ideas and also improving the design and use of technology or to apply fine arts in multimedia to give it an artistic sense or to enhance visual effects to improve its presentation and help the viewer to easily understand the message that is given to him.
After analyzing on creative multimedia we now understand what crative multimedia is all about. We can also relate on what creative multimedia is in just a simple statement; Creative Multimedia is just like a puzzle. So, why a puzzle? How does it relate to multimedia anyway?
Puzzle relates creative multimedia in terms of growth and formation. As we all know the puzzle comes in big or tiny little pieces, which are scramble, jumbled up together. Each and every piece has something in common and can come up with something big. We always overlook, fail to observe details of stuffs that we do. If we were to appreciate and look over the smallest details of whatever we’re doing, then there would be more inventors and creative people thinking up ways generating something new or solving problems big or small. The puzzle shows us that small things can grow and show the final end result. One connecting to the other and gives support to the neighboring pieces. Just like creative multimedia, it is made up by jumbled up pieces, which then are all compile at one place.
Creative multimedia is not just about art, it’s also mixture of technology as well. Different profession when combine create new which is called creative multimedia. A puzzle when finish creates something beautiful, and just like creative multimedia, if everything is done well enough it will be the birth of new creative and beautiful outcome. Not only that both share the aspect in both giving support and creating a beautiful outcome, both creative multimedia and puzzle can sometimes be confusing. In a way that sometimes a piece doesn’t fit in and you just have to find the right one to accomplish it. Here at creative multimedia is not different than said.

In a way that sometimes a piece doesn’t fit in and you just have to find the right one to accomplish it. Here at creative multimedia is not different than said. When you just thought you had the right stuff, it just doesn’t fit to the people whom you’re presenting to. And this is where you have to come out with another better solution to finish the job. The thing that ‘puzzles’ us most in creative multimedia is that the faculty is made up of opinions rather than pure formula. The eyes of many judge your work on effectiveness and beauty and that’s where you need to know about your audience and their hearts. This concept is also applied in jigsaw puzzles. From what we can say is that both share almost the same concept and principle of art.

Whenever someone thinking about what they want to do with anything that related to arts, someone might have a problem of thinking the solution on how to produce it to please anyone or the audiences who want to see his or her arts. This kind of situation is pretty much like a puzzle, where we sometimes we need to think on how to solve it. The puzzle itself sometimes requires a lot of hard work to put it on in order for it to be solved completely, and it same goes to arts.
To conclude, creative multimedia is like a puzzle where there are many pieces, whether they are small or big, that are involving skills. Skills required in order putting the right pieces and there is also a formation where all the pieces are equally important in order to make a wonderful idea. To consider the details of something very carefully and never overlook something even if it’s small, improving skills in terms of creativity, analytical and technical, exploring many fields in the multimedia elements and help solving various problems can help in generating new ideas or innovative ideas that can be useful in the future.

For this first entry, we will show our mind map creation for the project.
As for the mind map, we try to find the suitable terms to make it related to the main theme; Creative multimedia. Here are the lists of words that we have took for our group:
- Burning
- Melting
- Chocolate Cake
- Sexy
- Dignity
- Magic
- Speed
- Time Crisis
- Magnitude
- Eiffel Tower
- Chips
- Rubik Cube
- Box
- Electric Shock
It is really hard to find the suitable, yet different than the others. It is funny that we find something that totally unrelated to creative multimedia term, but still, if we can find do that in more creative way, that could be better.
We also trying to make a mind map based on a selected term, which is 'Magic'.
Turns out that we find it very common. Not very common in general, but we need to find something more than that.
So, for final decision, we have decided to choose a term that is very uncommon and not really comes from of our mind when we are trying to think something that relates to creative multimedia.

Our selected term is Puzzle.
Based on the mindmap above, that is what we have listed out anything that out from the puzzle term.

Week 9 - Updated and Ready
Saturday, August 7, 2010
Week 8 - Crazy thoughts
The steps are pretty simple, we are given a situation and an item (living or non-living thing) and we have to create a mind-map and list out the main characteristics of it. From than, think up a random word that associates from the characteristics but make sure it doesn't relate with the subject matter (the main item). This is what we call random word.
And from that random word we have to come out with ideas on how solve the given situation. The random word's characteristic must be used in solving the problem.
It's a bit confusing but here's an example of how it works...
The situation is :-
How to scare, people through out the ages, from coming into a specific area that was once a place where toxins were dumped without revealing the truth. Two reason why the truth is hidden is because the authorities are afraid that if people knew, some will try to dig out the toxins and use for maybe, business purposes. And why not put a 'Don't enter' sign or something similar is because we humans are rebellious (most of us). These signs tend to provoke more people coming in than staying out due to 'the urge of wanting to know more' feeling.
The subject matter given is :-
Cat
And here's my answer for the situation above...

Week 7 - Juxtaposition 2.0
Example:
A metaphor type sentence:-
Life is a box of chocolate, you will never know what you will get!
(The Movie: “Forest Gum”)
A simile type sentence:-
Life is like a maze in which you try to avoid the exit.
( From: Roger von Oech’s A Whack on the Side of the Head )
This time, we have to come with affected analogies that are brings up emotion towards something that resembles such situation.
Here are the situation and my answers...
Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Pain”
Pain is like an ice cream. They'll keep on stacking one on another. But they'll sooner or later will melt away and mostly forgotten.
Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Life”
Life is like a candle. It's it gets shorter you'll soon run out of it.
Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Love”
Chillies have some characteristics of love. There both is somewhat addictive to some people. But too much of it could hurt yourself.

Week 6 - Juxtaposition
1) It is defined as placing two or more variables and combine it together.
2) It usually defines an event of something and what must be done. The brain will relate the current situation with something that others commonly do or could do it differently than others, vice-versa.
3) Bottom line, juxtaposition is something literary, synonymous with contrast, that has a connection with something else (has a partner), that oppose one another.
Example:
It's raining but I'm not taking my umbrella
Here we can say that 'raining' is an event and usually when it rains people will think about 'umbrella', common sense. The brain triggers our common sense that suits the event taking place.
But this time, the obvious thing should be done is done otherwise. This is what we call Juxtaposition.

Week 5 - Research Outcome
Early ancient times, primitive metate grinding slabs were used to mix and grind various plants to make mostly medicine. The grinding slab was then as simple as a rock with various size of holes. These different hole sizes help determine the quantity needed to make certain medicine. As time pass by the grinding slab gradually evolved to the item which we know to day as the mortar and pestle.
Mortar and pestle were intentionally made for medicine purposes where they can grind various herbs and plants to prepare traditional treatment. The mortar and pestle, along with other essential stuff were then symbolized as pharmacological items. In the pharmaceutical industry, the mortar is made out of porcelain, while the handle of the pestle is made of wood. It was called as the Wedgwood mortar and pestle founded in 1779. The process of mixing, grinding and or reducing the size of the food or ingredients is known as saturation. Other than preparing of food or preparation for insulation, it is also used to grind up pills to decrease the time usage of pills absorption in the digestion system.
Mortar used to pulverize plant material.
Mortar are used as cooking preparation material, to pound and grind ingredients in using pestle. It's usually used to grind spices into powder. There are many kind of version and one is the molcajete version. this version is used by pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican cultures including the Aztec and Maya. In Mexico, Mexican mortar and pestle that were made of basalt and was commonly known and used for cooking intentions.
On the west side of this planet, native Americans bedrock carved mortars to grind acorns and other types of nuts. While the eastern side, the Japanese use large sized mortars with wooden mallets to prepare mochi. The Japanese use regular size ones too which are called suribachi and surikogi. In Southeast Asia, India and Pakistan, mortar and pestle is made out of granite and it is used commonly to mix up the ingredients to form many handmade dishes until today. The Mortar is known as 'Lesung' in the Malay language which measures up to two or three feet. Wooden pestle used in Middle East are usually to grind meat, kibbeh known as masabcha.
The usage of mortar and pestle gradually decreases as mechanical grinders were made such as the blender. Though it is used for traditional purposes such as the Hindus where they use it crush turmeric for wedding purposes.
Mortar and pestle must be made by hard substance so that they'll be strong enough to crush the ingredients and so that they'll last longer. The surface of the pestle and the inner part of the mortar should be cohesive so that the ingredients won't stick or mix with it.
Whatever was made previously shall leave a mark. This effect will add a great taste when it comes to preparing other foods. While making medication, the previous content will contaminating with the current ingredient.
When trying to grind substance to very fine powders, it requires a mortar and pestle made out of rough ceramic. But the effects of it is that easily stained and are brittle.
Mortar and pestle are made but many types of material.
-Porcelain mortars are good when it comes to give a good rougher surface to reduce the size of the food particles but with the help of grinding sands.
-Mortars and pestles made from glass are stain resistance. They are most suitable when comes to mixing liquids. But they're are fragile and don't grind finely like ceramic.
-When it comes to grinding salt and pepper, wooden mortar and pestle are the ones to count on. They are made from old grape vine wood.
-Mortar and pestle made from molcajete needs to be seasoned first before it is used. They are also other material that follows the same procedure, mostly made from stone.
-Metal mortars are kept lightly oiled.

Week 4 - Mindmap
There are two types of thinking, one is the ‘Convergent’ way of thinking, and the other is ‘Divergent’.
Convergent way of thinking is pretty much taken by almost all kinds of people. Convergent thinking is done by thinking straight forwardly or their thinking doesn’t tend to diverge far away from the main idea. These kinds of idea are okay but nowadays ideas like these are mostly considered common clichés.
The divergent thinking process is a must mostly for creative people. The divergent way of thinking consists of creating more creative ideas. Brainstorming and playing around with the problems involved in a certain situation is the divergent way. People like these usually tend to look for alternatives and come with sometimes weird but fantastic ideas. But in the divergent world, you must beware not to lose your motive. The idea usually comes when you think of several ways to solve a problem by bringing it away from the main idea, and this is why people sometimes can go off topic.
Here's an example of divergent thinking process in mind-map...

Week 3 - Mind-mapping Experience
~ Creative isn't something happens in your mind but the thoughts that's interacted between others.
- Coleman Kaufman
~ Capital "C" in creative leave your kind of creative work that changes aspect of the culture, rather than personal satisfaction.
- Mihaly Csikzentimahly
Making up mind maps is not that easy, considering whom you're going to present to. But to me, creating a mind map that we ourselves can easily understand is not that hard. It's all about understanding the information given and write them in a short simple sentence that connect one to another. Visual mind-map are mind-maps made but imagery rather than words. But this can become complicated since some words can't be describe by one or two pictures easily.
The most important thing I learn when creating a mind-map that is meant for yourself or to present others is that your mind-map must be Hierarchy. The main topic to the littlest details of it's sub topic must connected and make the users know where to look first so we or them can understand which comes first. The other thing that I always keep in mind is try to make something that our eyes will tend to stay or want to look at it. Make sure it's not dull and attracts our attention in wanting to know and understand the mind-map more.
But alas, since there are dozens of different opinions, likes, dislikes from us humans is what makes our job in trying to amuse someone with our creativity can be annoying to do it. Sometimes we even tend to give after trying many different ways and still fail to attract the eyes of our viewers. And this is why we have to study our audience first and try to get their impression as soon as possible so that they won't be all moody to look at other stuffs we tend to or have already created. Bottom line, being creative means hard work, observing smartly, a tough heart and a lot encouragement to keep ourselves up and ready. But the most important thing is to never give up and try your best.

Week 2 - The creative builds?
The lies behind the birth of a creative person
1) Talented people are creative. The only thing talent you require is the urge and patient when thinking or making something new
2) Being creative is hard?! It is if you give up every time something brings you down. Creative people needs to have a strong heart to attract others.
3) Problems in our life make it harder. Actually this is a way for us to create some new ideas to conquer problems that can't be solved normally. As an artist this is a way for them to scream out new ideas on a piece of paper (or on any drawable surface).
4) I'M NOT CREATIVE! If have the time to think that you're not, surely you have the time to think of something up?! Start up by copying other ideas, but don't publish'em. Study and DEVELOP it, soon you'll be making your own magic.
5) Creative means ALL new ideas, not true. there's still a lot of things that needs improvement. and as long as you can do it, no one can't say you're not creative.
6) Brainstorming is hard work. It takes up time when creating new ideas. Jot down anything that you get, whether its good or bad. and later on you can combine some of the stuff you've collected to create something fabulous. The key is to KEEP TRACK of ALL of your IDEAS.
7) Only artist needs to be creative. Trust me, if this were true, the world would be a less fascinating place to live in. Even nature was given birth in a spectacular way of showing itself, so why not us?.
8) Using structured creative techniques will hinder my ability to be creative. Well don't use them 100%, sure being creative is great, but unless you want to show it to the whole world, you would need to follow some requirements so that most people (not only you) will be able to accept and understand your concept of art, how and what way it is presented.
The reason why people still search for new creative people is to enhance communication ideas and their value. To increase methods of problem solving or to solve problems are currently being stacked on one another.
